Here's how it goes:
If you respond to your mom the FIRST time she asks you to do something (even better if you say, you guessed it, "sure I can") you earn the privileges of picking something out of the jar. Me, in all my creativeness...wrote things on little papers that were small rewards (trip to the store with mom, ring-around-the-rosie with mom...not a popular one with the 9 year olds...mom will make your bed, and the ever popular...a slurpee, etc.)
Well, it worked a few times...then we were all done with it.
I'm just convinced all of my kids have hearing problems and that's why they don't respond quickly. That, however, does not explain the whining, complaining...
Really, I'm the one whining. I have great kids. They may not always respond ASAP, but they are cute little stinkers!

If that doesn't work you can threaten to sing or make them watch the you tube video of the old people choir singing "Yes you can, can yes you can, can. You could always kick their cans!
Carson is only three so my tatics may not work on your kids but what I have been doing lately is if he doesnt listen to me or doesnt do what I say I start doing that to him if he asks me to do something or wants my help I think twice about it and let him know that if he doesnt have to listen or do what I ask then I dont have to listen to him or do what he asks awful I know but for now it seems to work cause it makes him mad. Anyways I dont know what to tell you I can only imagine your frusturations cause I only have one and get sick of the whinning as well....
yeah, remember my awsome chart? well, lets just say it's been forgotten.
I always get so excited in making the charts. I think they bring me more pleasure than the three days they actually get used. Maybe I should stop trying to accomplish anything and just make charts.
We have the same problem around here. Why oh why must I ask about 3 times and YELL before it actually HAPPENS??!! Maybe I should give your idea a shot. Ya know, just in case.
I want to draw the Slurpee card for me!!
Hmmmm I will be watching this one closely to see if it works because we need something that will work in our neck of the woods too :)
Dang! I was hoping that would work for us. Since you said it worked only a few times, I don't think I will try it. Plus, I am sure my notes would have to say "day at Lagoon" or "get a cell phone"!
Cute idea! We have tried a similar "first timers club"...whoever does something the first time they're asked gets to do something fun. I like the idea of all these things...but they sometimes get unwieldy to carry out!
p.s. On an unrelated note...will you email me sometime, I have a question for you...

Thanks!!
Hey, thank you so much for commenting on my blog! I LOVE yours, too! I got a giggle about Mr. Potato head and you are an incredible photographer! Those snails on the bus were actually artwork in my opinion :)
I am still trying to find a reward system that lasts longer than a month!
I tried a jar thing too when my oldest was about 6. Each week I filled it with $5 in quarters - I took OUT money when she didn't do her jobs and I added money when she did them or was a super kid. Each week she ended up with about $1.25 - it lasted 3 weeks. I feel your pain.
