stranded...

Somebody (Zach) left his backpack on the middle of the snow covered lawn one day after school...
Somebody's mom noticed it sitting out there & sent him outside to retrieve it.
Somebody didn't put shoes on, made it halfway to the backpack & then jumped on a rock to save his freezing feet.
(I love the above pic. The "What am I going to do now?" look. He didn't know I was watching...)
I went out to offer my assistance, but first I HAD to photo document it.
(This is the "Hurry up and take the picture mom because my feet are FREEZING." look.)
Bet somebody never makes that mistake again...
until next time, that is.

seriously???

So Lizzie and I are at the bakery today (a rather small store with several customers), and she notices a boy (about 4-5 years old) there with his dad. The dad is trying to help his son pick a treat. It was a sweet father/son interaction & Lizzie was playing close attention. She then says...in a rather LOUD voice..."Mommy, do I have a daddy?"

What???
Seriously??

Lizzie has a daddy who:
*gives her a bath every night (in the cool tub)
*gets her out of bed every morning & makes her breakfast
*plays tea party with her
*basically has him wrapped around her little finger
(it's starting to sound like Lizzie doesn't have a mom...she really just has a dad who recognizes that mom needs a break now & then...)
So, yea...with me blushing, my illegitimate child and I left the bakery.

wiped out...

After eleven + years (not counting the babysitting years) of wiping bums & noses...
I am wiped out. Literally
I'm just saying...

reverence police...

REVERENCE POLICE

Definition: Ward Clerk, or any man of large stature sitting somewhat nearby in the congregation (like the guy sitting in front of us today who I'm pretty sure was a football player...if not, he should have been)

Threat: Tell your kids that the "reverence police" monitor their every move during Sacrament Meeting, and if need be, will deal with you after the meeting.

Outcome: works like a charm (until one of these men are called as a Primary teacher or our Home Teacher...then the jig is up.)

I can't take all of the credit for this, one of my sister's friends does this. She is a GENIUS.

"love week", lazy style...

1. I LOVE all of the treats associated with Valentines Day

2. I LOVE that the Valentines are all addressed (somewhat legibly), have candy attached, and have left the premises for one whole year.

3. I LOVE that Lizzie doesn't just walk, but runs/jumps/bounces from room to room.

4. I LOVE that my boys (John included) are so easy to please & easy going.

5. I LOVE that Spring is just around the corner.

6. I LOVE good friends, diet coke, cute shoes, a fresh haircut & color, chocolate covered cinnamon bears, anything pink, a good book, time to myself...(ok, I cheated on #6)

Thanks Denae for the great idea!!

so sweet...

I came across this picture of my mom the other day...
(she's the cute one in the front, her sister is the cute one in the back!)

...remind you of anyone???

When I showed the pic of my mom to the boys (I didn't tell them who it was) the response was "When did Lizzie ride a horse?"
I think the resemblance is pretty amazing.

sleeping bags...

My kids each have their own sleeping bag.
They love their sleeping bags.
On weekends they get to sleep out in the family room in the beloved sleeping bags.
On boring winter days when we are stuck inside and in need of entertainment, they get to ride said sleeping bags down the stairs.
Not any more...
(the cheek, the nose & the forehead. Oops.)

When life really hates you, you injure your thumb, as well.

Tomorrow I think we'll go back to video games & movies.
