they did it...

By "it" I mean that my boys walked home together...two days in a row!!!!

The history of this grand achievement:

Day 1: Matt & Zach pick up Sam from Kindergarten so they can all walk home together. On the way home, Sam passes them up...crosses the street BY HIMSELF, and arrives home a good 5 min before the big brothers even round the corner of our street.
This incurred a tongue lashing from mom about socializing after school for too long, responsibility, etc. And they had better keep little brother in their sight tomorrow, or else.

Day 2: Sam, having heard yesterdays tongue lashing, RUNS home with the sole purpose of upsetting the big brothers, and {hopefully} get them in trouble yet again, and thus diminishing the fantasy their mom had of the three boys finally attending school together, looking out for each other, brotherly love, blah, blah, blah...

Day(s) 4 & 5: They did it!! Today, Zach was even carrying Sam's backpack.

I did also hear of an incident the other day where Sam & his buddy were being bullied at recess and the big brothers came to the rescue!!
Warms my heart!!!
Seriously!!!

What a great picture. I love all the flags.
I'm glad the boys have Sam's back. They are good brothers.

Great Pic! See they just had to work out the kinks and hopefully it will be smooth sailing from here on out. They even seem to be getting home a little sooner too. Thanks to the little guys

we had the same situation here - I decided to walk up to check on them one of the first days and my oldest was laying in the grass in the neighbors yard around the corner, waiting for his brother - we had to have yet another talk about the purpose of walking ALL THE WAY HOME(not just the last 5 houses) together - strength in numbers! It took them a few weeks - your boys are fast learners (or you give a better "tongue lashing") - either way, good job!!

You are SO lucky you live close enough to school for your kids to walk. Our house is WAY up a big hill-I'd have to give my kids oxygen if I made them walk!

Good for them!(and for you!) Sam looks so independent and grown up in that picture.

I just love reading your blog. I can't believe we live so close and don't see each other more often... that makes me sad. Maybe someday I'll quit my job! Anyway... I love seeing that our family is normal... we had the same issue with D & S last year.

We've been having similar discussions:

"If you get home 5 minutes before Jane are you doing your job?"

NO.

"If Gabe and Jane walk home, but Emma is still at school, are you doing your job?"

NO.

"If Jane crosses the street, without a big kid to hold her hand, are you doing your job?

NO.

So far, so good, although I really should do some stealth surveillance to see how it really goes.
